Last night was the first Winter seminar held at our Personal Training Studio in Strassen
And we had 14 people visit the studio for an hour of quick fire information from Scott Oliver, Derrek Taber and myself.
Derrek kicked off with a quick summary of what Muscle Activation Technique is all about, explaining the benefits of looking at the body in terms of symmetry, rather than just where pain is located.
Scott then spoke primarily about “What Health is and is Not”, explaining the paradox modern society is living under at the moment with a vicious circle of medications treating symptoms caused by other medications, and ultimately how proper function of the body can alleviate the majority of common ailments
Finally my discussion on “Why Fat Loss is A Sprint And Not A Marathon” dispelled 5 common myths surrounding cardio vascular training for fat loss and why the common practice of doing fat burning zone workouts, marathon style training, and other slow steady state workouts are not effective if Fat loss is your goal.
The alternative methods for cardio training for fat loss, are actually much less time intensive, and net a significantly more effective result. The studies I quoted mentioned in the region of 9 times for fat loss when compared to endurance style workouts.
I finished up with giving a sample routine that people can follow to introduce them in to interval style training for fat loss.
- Warm up for at least 5 minutes
- Work effort for 1 minute – the intensity should be tough enough to maintain ONLY for 60 seconds!)
- Active Rest – light jog, walk for approximately 90 seconds
- Repeat the interval and rest 5-7 times
- Cool down for at least 5 minutes, Stretch
This routine takes 25 minutes at the most, but will net a significant increase in your metabolic rate for 24-36 hours after the workout.
